Welcome |
OUR TALKSWe have given many talks around the world from Sydney University to the Boston State House. These talks have been invariably well received, often rapturously. This is not to be wondered at,given the nature of our subject; we speak not as academics, (although we have published a book to permit us the distinction and one of us at least has an academic degree); but our reception is due mainly to the fact that we talk of what we know and have experienced. This tends to distance us from the armchair academic who parlays in concepts and ideas that are often of little interest to his audience. Right are photos of talks given in Berlin. |

| What
You Can Expect
Our talks rarely last less than an hour and often stretch to two. Officially, they are scheduled for ninety minutes. During this period, the speaker usually begins with a potted history of our country and our city. This is followed by an in depth look at our contemporary history and the experience of the Troubles in the six counties with specific reference to our home town, Derry. This portion of the presentation is
accompanied by slides which illustrate in graphic detail the conflict.
Following this is a forty minute BBC documentary made about us and
broadcast in April 1998, shortly before the Peace accord was signed that
is still honoured to day. We have been told that
politicians who saw this documentary were enlightened by its revelations
of the social life and character of the people who live in the Bogside. Even for us
who have seen it many times, it is a fascinating film and often very moving.
The movie is followed by a question and answer session. For further information please contact the studio.

This is a series of large-scale murals depicting the key events in the Northern Irish 'Troubles' that began in October 1968 and, to some extent, still continue today. |
