Li Po

is a completely free download of a children's book, written by William.

It is essentially a follow-  on from a story he wrote called "The Ace of Hearts" that won a national UK short story writing competition in 1990

   "TRAVELS WITH LI PO"

didn't quite manage to get into print despite the fact that it was forged in the furnace of political upheaval. It was offered to many publishers in the early nineties including Amnesty International. 

It is here included with the prize-winning story from which it was cast. Enjoy.

Throughout the summer months and well into September thousands of people will be flocking to DERRY, Northern Ireland, from all over the world. They travel here to view the extraordinary site known as The Bogside. There you will find our work - The People's Gallery -  a series of large murals offering a panorama that is unique, a visual narrative of a people's struggle for democratic rights. Here you can witness and reflect upon events that shaped thousands of lives and impacted the destiny of a nation. Countless tourists visit The People's Gallery® each year, many of them to meet with the three men who painted the murals - The Bogside Artists - the name by which they are known everywhere. 

WHERE ?

The most common approaches to The People's Gallery are via Fahan Street, the steep street that leads down from Butcher Street and the other is via William Street that follows on from Foyle Street where the buses pull in and leads to and from The Guildhall Square. These are marked clearly on the map. The big red dot is where our studio is situated.

THE BOGSIDE ARTISTS' STUDIO/GALLERY 

Our studio is situated within a few yards of the murals themselves, directly behind the famous Bogside Inn, in the heart of The Bogside. There, the artists conduct their workshops, design their murals and meet with visitors who are interested in their work. 

  •   They talk about their history and give a presentation via slides and film. 
  •  The presentation is followed by a question and answer session.
  •  The studio has seating for over sixty people and has the usual amenities. 

Presentations are tailored to fit visitors' schedules.

Talks are hourly from 11 pm to 5 pm. Tours are at 12 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm.

The artists are always happy to sign posters for the visitor as well as providing him/her with useful advice on what the city has to offer.
